Jimmy Brock Physiotherapist 2

Get to know your NDIS physiotherapist, Jimmy Brock

We’ve asked our energetic, engaging and ‘book nerd’ (in his words) physiotherapist, Jimmy Brock, a couple of questions so that you can get to know him!

Why did you become a physiotherapist?

I have always had a passion for health care, and working with people who are passionate about bettering their lives and themselves. And through physiotherapy I am able to have an active job that stimulates me, and allows me to have a positive impact on my community.

What has led to your passion for disability?

I enjoy working in disability because it gives me an opportunity to empower people who need it most. With disability work, I am able to utilise my physiotherapy skills to the fullest, and help enrich peoples lives by starting them on a path towards an active and more healthy lifestyle. It brings me a great deal of joy to see people with disability become more independent and start to take control of their lives where they can!

Do you have a memorable experience of assisting a client to achieve their goals that you’d like to share?

I was able to assist a client in her 60’s who had a long term history of hip problems that started while they were in utero. They had consistent pain in their hip and leg, and were afraid of walking outside as they thought their hip would not be able to handle long walks or uneven surfaces. After months of physio and strengthening, she was able to walk around her neighbourhood and community without fear of pain or injury, and said she felt that her mobility was the best it had been since she was a child. It was fantastic watching her strength and function improve, but mostly seeing how much happier she became with her life.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love surfing! Every chance I get I am down in the water trying to catch a wave. I also work as a surf coach on weekends.

Otherwise I enjoy hiking, running, golf and boxing.

What is your favourite sport or physical activity?

Definitely surfing, but I also love any activity that is in the ocean, whether its just swimming, snorkelling, body surfing or boating.

In another life, if you weren’t a Physiotherapist, what do you think you’d be doing?

I previously wanted to be an engineer, but preferred the idea of having an active job. However I still love learning about the little details of how things work. I would have loved to be an engineer working in the field of robotics, and helping to design more advanced prosthetics for individuals who are amputees.

What is one thing that people would be surprised to learn about you? Do you have a hidden talent?

For many years I would come home from school and straight away start practicing juggling, so if you have 3 small objects, hand them over and I’ll see if I can impress you!

What is your favourite movie, book and holiday?

Movie: Avengers Infinity War

Book: The Beach

Holiday: Surf trip in Hawaii followed by a snowboard trip in Colorado
