Jade Kohler Exercise Physiologist

Get to know your exercise physiologist, Jade Kohler

We’ve asked our fabulous, bright and bubbly exercise physiologist, Jade Kohler, a couple of questions so that you can get to know her a little better!

Why did you become an exercise physiologist?

I grew up with two brothers who were always getting injured from playing football! This led to my interest in rehabilitation, for their benefit, which led me to a career in exercise physiology, and I have always loved sport and exercise!

What has led to your passion for disability?

I believe that people living with a disability in Australia deserve to have adequate access to therapies however, these are the people who often receive the least amount of support, so I wanted to work with people with a disability to do my part in making sure they get the support they need.

Do you have a memorable experience of assisting a client to achieve their goals that you’d like to share?

I have been able to use exercise and physical activity to support one of my clients to meet his goal of increasing his community access and participation by building his skills, reducing anxiety, and increasing his confidence and fitness to help him join not only a social basketball team, but also a rugby union team. We have been able to overcome a lot of the barriers together that were associated with his complex mental illness and I am so proud of how much he has achieved!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time you can find me baking some goodies, out on a walk with my dog, or reading a book.

What is your favourite sport or physical activity?

My favourite sport is rugby league (go the eels!) but I also love netball and played it for 8 years when I was younger!

In another life, if you weren’t an exercise physiologist, what do you think you’d be doing?

I would have loved to be a doctor or a vet.

What is one thing that people would be surprised to learn about you? Do you have a hidden talent?

You might be surprised to learn that I was in a band in high school (I played the drums) but I am a much better exercise physiologist than I was a musician – I promise!

What is your favourite movie, book and holiday?

Movie: Forrest Gump

Book: any book by Jane Harper

Holiday: My dream holiday is to visit Canada and Alaska!
