FAQs

Find answers to your questions about our My Aged Care services.

Do I need a referral from my doctor to access these services?

No formal GP referral is required to access allied health through My Aged Care. You (or a family member, carer, or your care manager) can refer yourself directly to Active Ability. We can liaise with your care manager to confirm your package covers the service before your first visit.

Can family members or carers be involved in sessions?

Yes. We encourage family members and carers to be present, especially when therapy involves home exercises, equipment use, or strategies that carers will need to support day-to-day.

Do you provide services if I live in a retirement village or supported accommodation, not just a private home?

Yes. Our mobile team visits clients across a range of living situations, including private homes, family homes, retirement villages, and supported accommodation, wherever you call home.

How quickly can someone come and see me after I make a referral?

Because we have no wait lists, we typically aim to schedule an initial assessment within a week of receiving your referral, depending on your location and urgency of need. It will just depend on how quickly we can link with your registered My Aged Care provider. Urgent cases (e.g., post-hospital discharge or fall risk) are prioritised.

What if I'm not sure how much funding I have left in my package?

That’s okay, many clients aren’t sure. We can liaise directly with your care manager to check your remaining funds and confirm what’s available for allied health services before any treatment begins, so there are no surprises.

Working with Active Ability Through a My Aged Care Provider

Why am I receiving services from Active Ability and not directly from my My Aged Care provider?

Many approved My Aged Care providers partner with specialist allied health organisations like Active Ability to deliver therapy services. This arrangement allows you to access experienced clinicians while your approved provider continues to manage your funding and care package.

Who is responsible for my care?

Both organisations have an important role:

  • Your My Aged Care provider manages your funding, service agreement, care planning, and package administration.
  • Active Ability provides the therapy services, clinical assessments, recommendations, treatment, and progress reporting.

We work together to ensure your goals and care needs are met.

Will I be charged separately by Active Ability?

No. Active Ability invoices your approved provider directly for approved services. Your provider then manages payment through your Home Care Package or other approved funding arrangement.

Can I contact Active Ability directly?

Yes. You are welcome to contact us directly at any time regarding setting up services, appointments, therapy recommendations, or clinical questions.

For questions about your funding, package budget, fees, or service approvals, you should contact your My Aged Care provider.

What does "associated provider" mean?

An associated provider (sometimes called a subcontractor or partner provider) is an organisation engaged by your approved My Aged Care provider to deliver specific services on their behalf. Active Ability provides allied health services, while your approved provider remains responsible for managing your Home Care Package or other aged care funding.

What services can Active Ability provide me through my My Aged Care plan?

Depending on your funding and needs, we can provide:

Your approved provider will confirm which services are available under your funding arrangement.

How do referrals work?

You or your My Aged Care provider sends a referral to Active Ability outlining your goals and approved services. We then contact you directly to arrange appointments.

Where will appointments take place?

We come to you so that your appointments can happen where ever you feel most comfortable – for most people, that is in their home. If you’d prefer the appointments to occur somewhere else, just let us know!
