NDIS early intervention

A new claims and payment framework has been created by the NDIA to provide clarity on how and when NDIS claims should be made. This new framework means that from October 3, 2024, providers must now make claims within 2 years of the support or service being provided. The NDIA has stated that they will honour older claims that were made prior to October 3, 2024, for the first 12 months.

Here is an example:

An NDIS participant submits a claim on the 30th of September 2024 for a support that is on the ‘not a NDIS support’ list that was delivered 2.5 years ago. In this circumstance, the claim can be submitted to the NDIA.

However, if an NDIS participant submits a claim on 3rd October 2024 that was 2.5 years ago, the claim would be declined as the service was over 2 years ago.

What does this mean for NDIS participants?

  • Ensure you are making a claim within 2 years after a support is provided
  • Ensure any support you are claiming for is considered an ‘NDIS support’
  • Keep any information related to your claim as the NDIA requires evidence e.g. receipts and bank statements
  • If your claim has been accepted the NDIA will make a payment to the nominated bank account within 2 days
