Get to know your NDIS exercise physiologist, Tugba Rendeci
We’ve asked our super friendly and funny exercise physiologist, Tugba, a couple of questions so that you can get to know her!
Why did you become an exercise physiologist?
I always knew that my career would be reflective of my interest to work in a caring and compassionate space. Being an exercise physiologist gives me the opportunity to help others to achieve their physical function goals – I also like to cheer them on by showing them the potential and capacity they have to achieve more!
What has led to your passion for disability?
I’ve had the opportunity to work with some amazing people with disability in the past. Seeing their ability to overcome barriers; both perceived and actual, that others take for granted gave me this passion. Supporting a person to achieve improvements in their daily living skills, such as walking or accessing their community has given me continuous drive to keep working in this space – so that together we can achieve the best life possible for them!
Do you have a memorable experience of assisting a client to achieve their goals that you’d like to share?
I can think of a lovely client who has multiple sclerosis, often reporting fatigue as well as poor balance and falls. It was significantly impacting her job because she was required to stand and walk for long periods of time. Through an exercise intervention focused on improvements to muscle strength and balance, she saw improvements in these areas that transferred to a positive impact on her ability to complete her job. This is the most rewarding feedback a clinician can receive!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy a range of activities including playing football with my teammates, going to the gym (practice what you preach!) or just chilling with friends.
What is your favourite sport or physical activity?
I love watching and playing football (soccer as some may know it as)!
In another life, if you weren’t an exercise physiologist, what do you think you’d be doing?
I enjoy baking- so I guess a baker of some sort?
What is one thing that people would be surprised to learn about you? Do you have a hidden talent?
I was not named after the instrument. It was just a happy coincidence ha!
What is your favourite movie, book and holiday?
I love the classics such as Home Alone 2 and I do have some amazing memories when I had the chance to travel to New York!
