Get to know your NDIS dietitian, Sophia Lin
We’ve asked our very knowledgeable, Sophia Lin, a couple of questions so that you can get to know her!
Why did you become a dietitian?
It was a combination of my passion for helping others and my love of food.
What has led to your passion for disability?
I wasn’t quite sure which area to work on until I had a placement in a mental health facility. It was during this experience that I discovered the positive impact I could have on others’ lives by applying my knowledge. The more time I spend in this field, the more rewarding I find it.
Do you have a memorable experience of assisting a client to achieve their goals that you’d like to share?
I had a client with mental illness who expressed a desire to eat healthier and enhance their overall well-being. Despite their willingness to make changes, they were unsure where to begin. Together, we collaborated on creating a meal plan and identifying actionable changes. I supported them in setting achievable goals that instilled confidence and motivation to initiate their journey towards better health. It was incredibly rewarding to hear about their progress and witness the improvements in their quality of life.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy searching for intriguing recipes and spending the whole afternoon cooking for my loved ones.
What is your favourite food?
It’s so difficult to pick just one favourite food, and I really enjoy sharing good meals with family and friends.
In another life, if you weren’t a dietitian, what do you think you’d be doing?
I’d probably be a chef to cook good meals for more people.
Favourite movie, book and holiday?
My favourite holiday was a 7-day road trip to Gansu with three close friends. I loved the moments spent driving along country roads, surrounded by our favourite music, singing, chatting and laughing together.
