Get to know your NDIS exercise physiologist, Samantha Rubino

We’ve asked our super friendly and supportive exercise physiologist, Samantha, a couple of questions so that you can get to know her!

Why did you become an exercise physiologist?

Growing up, I knew I wanted to help people. I also completed a lot of rehabilitation due to surgery, and had a passion for exercise.  So, I decided to pursue exercise physiology to utilise both of these passions; helping others and exercise.

What has led to your passion for disability?

During my studies I was very interested in supporting children diagnosed with intellectual disabilities. Because of this experience, I knew I wanted to further explore working with individuals with various disabilities.

Do you have a memorable experience of assisting a client to achieve their goals that you’d like to share?

When I initially started working with one of my paediatric clients, they could not skip due to impaired coordination and lower body strength. Following intervention, they completed 2 skips with the skipping rope in one of our sessions!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I love being outdoors, either at my family farm or going on walks. I also love spending my spare time with my niece and nephew.

What is your favourite sport or physical activity?

My favourite sport to play is AFL, however my favourite sport to watch is NRL.

In another life, if you weren’t an exercise physiologist, what do you think you’d be doing?

I would have worked with children as a paediatric nurse.

What is one thing that people would be surprised to learn about you? Do you have a hidden talent?

Sadly I have no hidden talents, but I have had a total of 52 stitches (I’m very injury prone)!

What is your favourite movie, book and holiday?

  • Movie: Shark Boy and Lava Girl
  • Book: Unbroken
  • Holiday: Christmas
