Get to know your NDIS dietitian, Maysa Ayoub

We’ve asked our supportive and friendly dietitian, Maysa Ayoub, a couple of questions so that you can get to know her!

Why did you become a dietitian?

From a young age, I was deeply passionate for all things fitness and health. The idea of supporting someone with their health through their food was something that always appealed to me. When I discovered the Bachelor of Nutrition Science course at ACU, I was drawn to the idea of learning about all things food, nutrition, and health.

What has led to your passion for disability?

My passion for disability grew from wanting to help others. My personal experiences have taught me the importance of empathy and understanding in providing care.

Do you have a memorable experience of assisting a client to achieve their goals that you’d like to share?

A memorable experience I’ve had during my time at Active Ability was visiting a client who had been struggling with severe depression for several weeks. They shared with me that the advice and resources I provided had helped them feel more prepared and empowered to incorporate new dietary habits into their lifestyle. Witnessing this positive change in implementing meal preparation tips, food storage tips and healthy eating habits was incredibly rewarding.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I like to work on my physical health, and spend time with my nieces and nephews. They definitely like to cause chaos and make things fun!

What is your favourite food?

I may be a bit biased but my all-time favourite food has to be a Lebanese meat pastry that goes perfectly well with tabbouleh.

In another life, if you weren’t a dietitian, what do you think you’d be doing?

I think I would either be a personal trainer or baker. I love all things cooking.

What is one thing that people would be surprised to learn about you? Do you have a hidden talent?

I think people are surprised to know that I can rollerblade – not the greatest but I have enjoyed doing it since I was young.

Favourite movie?

My favourite movie series has to be the Fast and Furious movies. They never disappoint!
