Georgia Dimitriades Dietitian 2

Get to know your NDIS dietitian, Georgia Dimitriades

We’ve asked our very friendly dietitian, Georgia Dimitriades, a couple of questions so that you can get to know her!

Why did you become a dietitian?

Food is something that we eat and enjoy every single day, but there is so much that goes into eating well. I have always loved food but what drew me to dietetics is really wanting to know as much as I could about how I could use food as a tool to meet my goals, since I was eating at every meal anyway! Helping other people to do the same was a very natural extension of that!

What has led to your passion for disability?

During one of my university placements, I was placed with Active Ability and told that their area of practice was disability. I did not expect to enjoy my placement as much as I did, because the people that I got to meet – clinicians and clients that I got to meet – made the experience incredibly rewarding. After that, I knew this was where I wanted to be! I love the team involvement that goes into the care of those with disability, and the long-term relationship I get to have with my clients. Good nutrition is a long term process – I love that this space lets nutrition care be long term as well. Every client is so unique, and I love the individual challenge that presents every time.

Do you have a memorable experience of assisting a client to achieve their goals that you’d like to share?

I have a particular paediatric client I’ve been working with for a while which has been so amazing following and getting to watch her grow. She is making great progress towards her goals, and it is so exciting to be playing a role in that. Working with clients is always rewarding when you see positive change happening, but especially getting to watch young clients grow feels particularly special.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

At the moment I am planning my wedding, so I’m not really sure what you mean by spare time! When it is over, I’ll be using my spare time to rest, recharge, and go back to enjoying my pilates and yoga regularly.

What is your favourite food?

I struggle to just pick one! My favourite savoury food is definitely sushi – any meal, any time of day, I’m happy to have sushi. My favourite sweet is any sort of chocolate – I’m not picky.

In another life, if you weren’t a dietitian, what do you think you’d be doing?

I have always wanted to learn how to sew properly and make clothes. I definitely would have wanted to be a fashion designer if I wasn’t a dietitian. It’s still on my bucket list to learn how to make my own clothes from scratch one day!

What is one thing that people would be suprised to learn about you? Do you have a hidden talent?

I’m pretty good at maths – I even have a degree in it. But it was definitely more exciting to become a dietitian than a mathematician!

Favourite movie, book and holiday?

Movie: Tangled – I love a Disney fairytale!

Book: definitely the Harry Potter series – I couldn’t pick just one!

Holiday: would have to be Christmas, but I love the lead up to Christmas Day more than the day itself.
