Brooke Murray Exercise Physiologist 2

Get to know your NDIS exercise physiologist, Brooke Murray

We’ve asked our kind and very friendly exercise physiologist, Brooke, a couple of questions so that you can get to know her!

Why did you become an exercise physiologist?

Growing up surrounded by movement and sport, I learnt from a very young age the power of exercise to heal and improve overall wellbeing whilst enriching life with various different physical, emotional and intellectual benefits. I’ve always wanted to help others by sharing this passion, and as an exercise physiologist I am able to do this every day.

What has led to your passion for disability?

Whilst studying at university I was a dance and cheer coach, and co-founded an all-abilities program for kids with various physical and intellectual disabilities. Being able to give them the opportunity to shine and succeed like any other able-bodied child in the performing arts was so rewarding, and seeing the improvements in physical skills, confidence, socialisation and independence meant the world. Following that I became a support worker, and have now been driven to specialise in disability as an exercise physiologist to help as many people as possible increase their independence and quality of life through movement.

Do you have a memorable experience of assisting a client to achieve their goals that you’d like to share?

I will always remember the first time one of my clients was able to step down off a step without holding my hand, after having an intense fear of descending stairs. It was such a big win for them, and a very exciting moment for us both!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I take my two dogs on adventures to the beach or park, dance and do pilates.

What is your favourite sport or physical activity?

My favourite physical activity to do is reformer pilates. Favourite sport to watch though would be NRL, up up Cronulla!

In another life, if you weren’t an exercise physiologist, what do you think you’d be doing?

I’d be a dance teacher full time, or running a doggy daycare!

What is one thing that people would be surprised to learn about you? Do you have a hidden talent?

I occasionally do freelance work as an emcee and public speaker, aka I love a chat!

What is your favourite movie, book and holiday?

Movie: 50 Frist Dates

Book: The Tattoist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris

Holiday: Hamilton Island
