Get to know your NDIS dietitian, Adriana Makaroff
We’ve asked our supportive and friendly dietitian, Adriana Makaroff, a couple of questions so that you can get to know her!
Why did you become a dietitian?
Initially my intentions to become a dietitian were due to my own struggles with my body image and wanting to learn how to eat as healthy as possible. However, during my studies, I began to realise that this thought was disordered. I have since learnt the power of dietetics for overall health and wellbeing, and love to share this knowledge as a dietitian.
What has led to your passion for disability?
I started working as a dietitian, I developed a passion for supporting individuals living with a disability as I enjoy seeing the positive changes I can make to improve one’s life through dietary changes. I find satisfaction in creating long-lasting professional relationships with the individual and their support team to improve their overall wellbeing.
Do you have a memorable experience of assisting a client to achieve their goals that you’d like to share?
Yes, multiple! Some of the most memorable experiences have been assisting clients to achieve their goals through introducing new foods into their diet, and those who I’ve assisted to overcome disordered eating and begin to focus on their physical and mental health, wellbeing and bodily functions, rather than what they look like.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to keep active (physically and mentally), whether that be going for walks, swimming, pilates, reading murder mysteries and listening to music and comedy podcast, in particular Toni and Ryan. I also love to socialise with family and friends.
What is your favourite food?
This is tricky, I love most foods! Though, I love a good burger with extra pickles.
In another life, if you weren’t a dietitian, what do you think you’d be doing?
Something in science and health, like being a biologist or nurse.
What is one thing that people would be surprised to learn about you? Do you have a hidden talent?
I used to play the clarinet in primary school, and have once played the Harry Potter theme song with the recorder.
Favourite movie, book and holiday?
Movie – I love anything comedy, like Step Brothers.
Book – Any book in the murder mystery or fictional WW2 genres.
Holiday Destination – New York and Bali.
